Programme

10:00-10:15 Welcome and introduction to speakers and topics / Culture Hub Croatia

10:15 – 11:15 The Role of Criticism in Professional Development / Kurziv

This lecture explores criticism as a space for reflection, learning, and professional positioning within both artistic and broader social contexts, with a focus on its role in the development of artistic practices and the creation of space for public dialogue. Drawing on the long-standing work of the Kulturpunkt portal and its publisher Kurziv in fostering critical practices – from publishing texts to developing educational and discursive formats – the lecture will open up questions around the role of criticism in shaping professional identity, as well as the broader significance of critical thinking in contemporary cultural fields.

11:15 – 11:30 Break

11:30 – 13:00 How do you develop a sustainable career as an artist? / Jessica Capra and Zoë Rivas Zanello, Artists and the Others

It is hard to build a career in the Arts. Presenting your work to an audience, showing it, and gaining visibility is a fundamental part of an artist’s career. However, what are your options? What steps can you take? In this interactive discussion, the Dutch art Foundation The Artist and the Others’ will share the knowledge and experience accumulated in over 10 years of activity, working with different experts and developing projects and workshops aimed at helping artists develop a sustainable career. During the years, common questions have arisen in our Coaching sessions for artists. This lecture provides answers to these fundamental questions. Breaking down key steps, tools and points, this lecture is especially tailored for soon-to-be, and recently graduated artists.

13:00-13:15 Break

13:15 – 14:00 Anne Ampersand – to be and also and and / Marko Gutić Mižimakov

Anne Ampersand is a drag computer vision specialist, working gig-to-gig deleting unwanted objects from stock photos. Her drag isn’t just queenly but a method—passing as material, wearing another’s language. ‘”I’m in drag when I write in English, when I speak through borrowed voices to trespass and play.”

KURZIV is an organisation based in Croatia. Launched in 2005, Kulturpunkt.hr marks 20 years of continuous work in 2025. It is the central project of the organization Kurziv and remains the only Croatian media outlet that systematically covers the independent cultural scene and emerging critical artistic practices.
