Angela Bettoni (MLT/IT)

Performer and advocate with Down Syndrome, with a BA degree in Creative Arts

Performer and advocate with Down Syndrome, with a BA degree in Creative Arts (dissertation: Representation for people with learning disabilities in the performing arts in Malta); Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts; & Diploma in Community Access for Disabled People. Her training includes placements with Chickenshed Theater UK; Skanes Dansteater, Sweden; Stopgap Dance Company UK; and danceWEB scholarship to ImpulsTanz Festival. Has performed in Malta, Italy, Germany, Sweden and Sri Lanka. Awards: JCI Malta Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award; University of Malta Social Commitment Award for contribution to making the arts accessible; executive committee Commonwealth Children & Youth Disability Network.

Evelyn Vella (MLT)

Student

Evelyn is a visual artist whose work explores emotion, identity, and the spaces between the physical and psychological worlds. Through a mix of surrealism, symbolism, and expressive form, their pieces often reflect deeply personal experiences,from fear and calm to introspection and growth. They work across traditional and digital mediums, driven by a desire to capture what lies beneath the surface of human emotion.

Gabriel Lia (MLT)

Gabriel Lia holds a BA in Communications and Maltese from the University of Malta and is an award-winning writer, winning the Premju Frans Sammut (2015) and Studio Francis Ebejer (2024). He has held leadership roles in Għaqda tal-Malti Università and contributed widely to theatre, literature, and multimedia art. His work spans poetry, installations, radio, journalism, and scriptwriting, including Christmas pantomime and comedy scripts for television, with collaborations including Teatru Malta, Festivals Malta and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. He has published poetry and a book, created socially engaged art, and continues producing multidisciplinary work.

Hannah Micallef (MLT)

Hannah Micallef, 24, is a multi-talented artist and passionate self-advocate representing the Down syndrome community. Through her work, she aims to inspire others and challenge perceptions of disability in the Arts. Hannah trained for 10 years at Masquerade Drama School Malta, achieving Level 3 in Individual Performance Arts and Level 7 in Musical Theatre. Since 2021, she has also been training with Opening Doors, an inclusive theatre group.

As an independent artist, Hannah sells her artwork through galleries, online platforms, and markets. She is also a singer with La Voix Studios, with whom she achieved second place internationally. In addition, Hannah is an acro dancer and is recognised for her distinctive doodle style.

Karen Briffa (MLT)

Pyrography artist

Karen Briffa is a pyrography artist working under the name KejKs, based in the village of Għarb on the island of Gozo. Her artistic practice is shaped by photography, a deep respect for nature, and a quiet thread of storytelling.

As a self-taught artist, Karen embraces experimentation, allowing her craft to continuously evolve across different materials. Landscapes, wildlife, and the natural formations found in wood inspire her work, while close observation and emotional detail guide her artistic process. Through texture, heat, and patience, Karen transforms wood, leather, cotton, and linen into intimate narratives. Her work celebrates and preserves the traditional, hand-burned technique of pyrography in a world increasingly shaped by digital and laser-produced alternatives.

Kris Debono (MLT)

Artist

Kris Debono is the owner of Old School Studios, an art studio in Malta that has become a hub of creativity and compassion. Through his innovative use of recycled car parts, 3D printing, and preservation of Maltese cultural heritage, Debono is leaving an indelible mark on the local art community. By using recycled car parts as his primary medium, Debono highlights the importance of sustainability and reinforces the notion that art can inspire positive change in society.

He is also involved in cultural work, such as Maltese Ghana (traditional songs) and Prejjem (traditional lace), ensuring that Malta’s rich cultural traditions continue to thrive. His ability to blend artistic innovation with social consciousness has captured the hearts of both local and international audiences. Debono has also collaborated with various local councils in Malta, as well as local artists.
