Turku University of Applied Science´s Arts Academy is proud to welcome 26 National Artists and our PMP partners from 6 European countries for the first ever PMP Workshop Week. Theme for the week is Media and Art.

Sunday, October 1, 2023

Travel Day to Turku, Finland.

 

Monday October 2, 2023

9:45 meet at the main entrance to the Turku UAS ICT City building, Google Map: Joukahaisenkatu 3, 20520 Turku and walk through ICT City to EduCity building.

  • Get your  Name Tag outside Hammarbacka Lecture Space at the Information Table.
  • Hammarbacka, Dromberg and Moriaberg are the names of the spaces where most of the PMP activities will be held in the EduCity building. The ICT building is connected by a bridge to the EduCity building

10:00 – 11:00  Gather at EduCity’s Hammarbacka Lecture Space

  • Coffee/Tea
  • Brief introduction to the PMP Workshop Week: David Yoken  and Suvi Lehtinen
  • Welcoming remarks by Dr. Vesa Taatila, President of the Turku University of Applied Sciences

Tuesday October 3, 2023:

10:00 – 12:00 PMP Management Team meeting (Dromberg)

9:45 NATs meet at the main entrance to the ICT City building (Joukahaisenkatu 3, 20520 Turku) and walk to the Turku Game Lab (ICT B1035).

10:00 – 12:00 Turku Game Lab Presentation/Workshop

12:15 – 13:15 Lunch (see Monday October 2nd information about lunch possibilities).

13:30 – 15:00 Dromberg

15:15 – 15:45 Hammarbacka/Lobby Space

Wednesday October 4, 2023

Villa Marjaniemi, Ruissalo Island

9:00 Meet at the main entrance to the ICT City building Joukahaisenkatu 3, 20520 Turku

9:15 Bus departs from in front of the ICT City building to Villa Marjaniemi.

10:00 – 12:00

  • AI and New Media Artists by Roosa Wingström, Doctoral researcher at the University of Turku.
  • Engagement of NATs in dialogue and discussion.

12:15 – 13:15 PMP sponsored lunch

13:30 – 15:00

  • Art as content, artist as user – a personal reflection on artistic work in the age of social media by Jaakko Pallasvuo, Media Artist. Engagement of NATs in dialogue and discussion.
  • Please note! Video, audio and photo documentation is not permitted during Jaakko´s presentation.

15:00 – 15:45

  • Break to walk around the nature of Villa Marjaniemi

16:00 – 18:00

  • Sauna and PMP sponsored Light Dinner.
  • PLEASE BRING YOUR BATHING SUITES FOR THE COED SAUNA.  We will organize all the participants as to who will be in the sauna and the dining logistics.

18:30 – 19:15 Depart Villa Marjaniemi back to Turku City, ITC City Building

 

Thursday October 5, 2023

10:00 – 11:30 PMP Management Team meeting (Moriaberg)

9:45 NATs Meet at Vanha Suurtori 5, 20500, Turku

10:00 – 12:00

  • Photographic Centre Peri and the Turku City Art Hall Presentation by staff members, not only to view the current exhibitions, but also to learn about the ways in which both of these institutions use media and social media to support their affiliated artists.
  • Walk back to EduCity.

12:30 – 13:30 Lunch (see Monday October 2nd information about lunch possibilities).

1345 – 15:45 Moriaberg

  • NAT’s: PMP Toolkit Think Tank

Friday October 6, 2023

10:00 – 11:30 Dromberg or Hammarbacka (to be determined)

  • Nina Bulgakova will begin her presentation with some simple breathing exercises for everyone and speak about how yoga has been a very important part of her life.  She will continue with a presentation about the Ethno Contemporary Ballet Company founded in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Nina will conclude with the way she has been using social media during the time she has been in Finland since leaving Ukraine.

13:00 – 14:30 Dromberg or Hammarbacka (to be determined)

  • How does the media portray the Sámi people and how this portrayal affects how people perceive us by Janne Hirvasvuopio (Hirvas-Lasse Aila Antero Janne), Sámi rights activist, politician, member of the Social an Health Committee of the Sámi Parliament in Finland and international law student hailing from the village of Vuohčču.
  • Hirvasvuopio is known for his work against mining activities in Sápmi and bringing the voice of the queer Sámi to be heard.
  • Article from Finnish National Broadcasting Company, YLE, February 6, 2023: Sámi activist Janne Hirvasvuopio’s life was threatened. Please also read about the Sámi in Finland at The Sámi Parliament of Finland’s site.

Please bring with you:

  • “Layers” of clothing for warmth. It may be cold (but probably no snow 😊 )
  • Rain protection (including waterproof shoes, if possible)…it may very well rain (cold rain 😊 )
  • A bathing suit for the coed Sauna on Wednesday
  • Covid19: optional face masks, testing kits. There have been no specific outbreaks at the Turku University of Applied Sciences of Covid-19 in recent weeks/months.
  • For EU/EEA residents, please bring along your European Health Insurance Card as you are entitled to free public healthcare services. You should present this card at the health center or hospital.
  • Please use some of your lunch time to go for a walk, even if it is raining… The fresh air is important 😊
  • VERY IMPORTANT: Please bring Patience and Flexibility…. 😊

Please note, by attending the PMP Workshop week, you consent to participate in events that will be videoed and photographed for future educational use and public media dissemination by Turku UAS and the PMP Project.

 

Artistic work and copyrights in NATs

The ownership, copyright and Intellectual Property Right (IPR) of the artistic work created in PMP stays with the artists, with a right to publish this work as a part of PMP outcomes (e.g. Toolkit). Any creations will not be shared or published without permission from the artist. With all legal and contractual questions, including the ownership, copyright and Intellectual Property Right (IPR) issues, the project will follow firstly the laws of Europe and their country, secondly the Grant Agreement done with EACEA, and thirdly the Professional Media Presence Co-operation Agreement.

Notes for the accompanying PMP Management Team members

When you do not have the formal PMP MT meetings on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, if you wish to conduct your own work or dialogue with your colleagues from the PMP Management team or have other work you must be focused on, we have reserved smaller rooms for you during the days at EduCity.
